The Second Coming of Christ

The Second Coming of our Lord Jesus is going to be a glorious day.In the midst of chaos and uncertain times, we do not need to hang our heads but we need to look up, for the “redemption of the Lord draws near” (Luke 21:28).A.W. Tozer in his book, Preparing for Jesus' Return precisely sums up Christ’ death and redemption plan when he stated, “If man had his way, the plan of redemption would be an endless and bloody conflict. In reality, salvation was bought not by Jesus' fist, but by His nail-pierced hands; not by muscle but by love; not by vengeance but by forgiveness; not by force but by sacrifice. Jesus Christ our Lord surrendered in order that He might win; He destroyed His enemies by dying for them and conquered death by allowing death to conquer Him.”

“ Jesus is soon to return and when He does, it will not be on a lowly donkey; He’s coming in power and might, on a white horse. In Triumph and Victory.

Jesus is soon to return and when He does, it will not be on a lowly donkey; He’s coming in power and might on a white horse. In triumph and Victory. His return gives believers hope in a hopeless world. In a world filled with uncertainty, one thing is certain, He's coming back; and that is good news! This good news should bring excitement...the question is, are you ready?

Acts 1:9 provides us with a promise of His return. Jesus was lifted up before the very eyes of the disciples. They were in a daze, staring intently into the sky when the two angels in all white stood beside them and said, look here, the same Jesus (not another but this same Jesus), who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” His coming will be personal & visible; the Son of Man will come in a cloud with power and great glory (Luke 21:27)!

When will Jesus return?Matthew 24:29-31 gives us a glimpse/general indication. It states, “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other!

Luke 21:28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” He won’t be seen coming on a lowly donkey, He’s coming in power and might on a white horse and His name is called Faithful and True! (Rev 19:11).

Jesus’ return is likened unto the time of Noah, before the flood, when everyone was carrying on as usual, having a good time right up to the day Noah boarded the ark. People knew nothing—until the flood hit and swept everything away. It is time to BE...be alert, be vigilant, be present, be the light, be His ambassador, be His disciple...be ready!

Believers don’t wait with their fingers crossed, but in confident expectation of good things to come.

Jesus’ return will be a Blessed hope for those who are joined with Christ. Christians wait with great expectation for the Hope that is to come! Believers don’t wait with their fingers crossed, but in confident expectation of good things to come. Hebrews calls it the “full assurance of hope.” Some stand in fear of Jesus’ return like when mother utters those words, “when your father gets home.” But unbelievers don’t have to wait in fear. Christ died for the saved and the unsaved, and His hope is that the sinner would surrender his/her life to Him, that He might give him/her new life and a new story! But for the Christians, they have been rescued from the dominion of darkness and brought into the God’s Kingdom (Col. 1:13-14). They are redeemed, their sins have been forgiven and their names are written in the lambs book of life. Ephesians 1:13-14 supports this, “when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance...to the praise of his glory.” For the Christian, based on this, there should be a shift from fear and anxiety to excitement and hope!

God’s creation has longed to see the Hope Glory. Ever since the Son of God became a man, men and women have wanted to see Jesus. Philip said to Nathaniel, “Come and see!” Zacchaeus climbed a sycamore tree because he wanted to see! Scripture tells us that everything that God made in creation—the sun, the moon, the stars, the sun, the earth, and the trees are, anxiously and eagerly awaiting the moment that the trumpet sounds. The apostle Paul wrote, “Now we see through a glass darkly, but then face to face!” Not over ZOOM, not over FB Live but we will see Him Face to Face. And we long to hear those glorious words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

“We’ve not seen a party until we’ve seen a heavenly party.”

We’ve got something to look forward to! We are awaiting to return to sporting events, awaiting to return to BBQs, to fellowships, some to church as usual, and back to work...BUT Jesus’ return is something better...much, much better. No Longer will there be pain, No longer will there be heartache, No longer will there be sickness, No longer poverty, No Longer disease...we’ve not seen a party until we’ve seen a heavenly party. Christians get excited! There should be something in us that makes us live every day unashamedly knowing Jesus, our Savior could come—today! Are you ready? Am I ready for His coming? Am I excited?

AW Tozer encouraged Christians with this, “Let us be alert to the season in which we are living. It is the season of the Blessed Hope, calling for us to cut our ties with the world and build ourselves on this One who will soon appear. He is our hope—a Blessed Hope enabling us to rise above our times and fix our gaze upon Him.”
